About The Jacksonville National Cemetery

The Jacksonville National Cemetery honors veterans and their families by providing final resting places and serving as a national shrine with lasting tributes that commemorate their service and sacrifice to our nation. Owned by and managed by the National Cemetery Administration, the cemetery is located north of the Jacksonville International Airport and approximately nine miles from Interstate 295.

In 2008, the St. Augustine National Cemetery closed to new interments, leading to the development of a new National Cemetery. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs purchased the land for the Jacksonville National Cemetery from the City of Jacksonville in July 2008 and interments began in January 2009. Jacksonville National Cemetery is situated on 526 acres offering a peaceful, beautiful setting including a Memorial Walkway, Assembly area, and public information center. In 2024 a second phase of development was completed bringing the total developed area to 105 acres Jacksonville National Cemetery serves 189,000 Veterans in the northeast Florida/southeast Georgia region and will serve Veterans’ needs for the next 100 years.

There are eight other VA National Cemeteries in Florida: Barrancas, Bay Pines, Cape Canaveral, St. Augustine, Florida (Bushnell), South Florida, Tallahassee, and Sarasota.
